About the project
The question of religion in public life is one of perennial interest, and it is often said, especially so since 9/11. Some are of the opinion that religious communities do not direct towards the common good. This is the broadest context of my project, the aim of which is to present an argument for how and why the Christian community directs to common good of all. This follows from two views which I take as inherent in the understanding of the universal church, that I reconstruct and defend in this project as two theses: that the communion of saints is a life in virtue, and that the infused virtues of the ecclesiastical community also realizes the good of its surrounding community. In this way, the Church attains the common good of all in its practice of Christian virtue. By taking the route through virtue, this project also speaks to the context of moral theology and explores the notion of virtue as the basic paradigm of Christian ethics. In doing so, I hope to contribute towards a creative and fruitful analysis of the role of the Church in public life.
