If the course or courses you have previously completed are considered to be similar to parts of your current programme of study in terms of academic content, academic level and scope, the course(s) will be recognised as part of your current study programme and you will be exempted from the relevant classes and examinations.
Please note that it is not common practice for VID to give recognition to parts of a course. (This means that you will not be exempt from parts of an exam). Furthermore, you will need to earn at least 60 ECTS credits at VID in order to graduate. At bachelor’s level, there is also a requirement that you write your bachelor’s thesis at VID.
- Spring: 1 February
- Autumn: 15 September
In most cases, a decision will be made within four weeks.
How to apply:
- Complete the application form. It is important that you specify which courses from the external institution you wish to have recognised, and which of the VID courses you wish to replace.
- On receipt of an application for exemption, VID Specialized University will obtain your academic results from the institution at which you completed the course(s). If the institution you attended does not subscribe to the Result Exchange, you will have to submit a copy of the transcript.
- Attach the reading list and the curriculum or programme details, with course descriptions, which were current at the time you completed the course.
Send your application with attachments to:
VID vitenskapelige høgskole, PB 184 Vinderen, 0319 Oslo.
The State Educational Loan Fund
The State Educational Loan Fund calculates your student support on the basis of your ECTS credits. If your application for course recognition is approved, you will be earning fewer credits than expected. You should notify the State Educational Loan Fund that your study load has been reduced. Otherwise, your progression will be considered to be delayed.
