A warm welcome to you as a new student!
Welcome as a new, international student at VID. Here, you'll find all the essential information you need to know before the beginning of your studies.
Complete these tasks after August 5th, 2023, but before the beginning of the semester.
You will receive your username and password via email, which will be sent to the email address you provided when you applied for admission to a study program.
- Activate your user account in Feide.
- Find and pay your invoice.
- Register for the semester.
- Apply for student loans and grants.
- Look up your schedule in TimeEdit.
- Access your courses in Canvas, VID's learning platform.
- Make sure you have an approved PC for teaching and exams.
- Access free Office 365 for your devices.
- Apply for and submit a certificate of good conduct (This applies only to certain programs).
On the actual day of the start
- You need to register your attendance for the study commencement in our digital attendance registration app called NOA.
Find your campus
Choose your campus, and you'll find all the practical information about your program.
After the start of the semester you should
- Sign on to the wireless network/WIFI
- Order your student ID card. The student card is only available to order from the onsite campus.
- Download the Student ID app
- Find out about printing and copying services
- Get familiar with Canvas - our learning platform for courses and learning
- Download and install Zoom.
- Explore the opportunities for studying/work placement abroad
- Read the requirements for medical testing (applies to selected studies)
- Check the student web page. Here you will find information that is important for you as a student, about health, student happenings and more.

- Follow VID on Facebook and Instagram so that you know what is happening.

During the orientation week or buddy week, you have the opportunity to get to know many of your fellow students. We look forward to seeing you!

Tuesday, August 15th: Mentors meet mentees and have their own activities until the evening.
Wednesday, August 16th: Speedfriending in the Atrium.
Thursday, August 17th: Word puzzle hunt
Friday, August 18th: Gentlemen's Night/Renting a venue.
Saturday, August 19th: Closing party in the Atrium.

The Fadderfestival in Stavanger is a whole week dedicated to all new students, allowing you to get to know your fellow students and experience a taste of the vibrant student community in Stavanger.

The week is for absolutely every new student in Stavanger, regardless of your interests, background, family situation, or whether you drink alcohol or not.
There will be a variety of events, ranging from bowling and mountain trips to large concerts, surfing courses, themed parties, and volleyball tournaments. You will become part of a group with other new students from your study program. You will also be assigned a "fadder," a current student who will take care of you throughout the week.
The Fadder Festival takes place from August 14th to 18th, and you can follow "Uisfadder" on Instagram to stay updated.
The event is organized by the University of Stavanger.
